Cabbage Casserole

Cabbage Casserole  

 

Ingredients

 

1 pound ground beef

1 pound Jimmy Dean pork sausage, mild

1 medium onion, chopped

1 large yellow or orange bell pepper, chopped

1 head cabbage, shredded

1 can Rotel tomatoes, original

1/2 cup warm water

1 cup rice, uncooked

Dash of chili powder

2 teaspoons Beazell's Cajun Seasoning

 

For the cheese sauce:

 

1/2 stick butter

1 tablespoon flour

1 cup milk

4-8 slices cheese

Beazell's Cajun Seasoning, to taste

 

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Brown sausage and ground meat with Beazell’s Cajun Seasoning and chili powder. Add onions and bell pepper and stir well. Add cabbage, Rotel and 1/2 cup of warm water. Mix well and cook over med heat for about 20 minutes; stirring often. Add rice and stir well. Pour into a casserole dish and add cheese sauce.

Melt butter in saucepan, add milk. Whisk in the flour and add cheese slices until continually stir until melted and blended. I add a sprinkle of Beazell’s Cajun Seasoning to the cheese sauce as well.  Bake covered at 400 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
